Louis Philippe Patchwork Sofa
Louis Philippe Patchwork Sofa
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This 1950s reproduction has tailored lines of the Louis Philippe period with its graceful simplification of form prevalent during the last Bourbon King’s reign. Lack of elaborate detail is the best feature of this elegant antique replica of an early 19th century French sofa.
The previous owner of this armchair reluctantly parted with it as her husband felt it no longer belonged in their increasing ultra-modern home. Her connection with it went all the back to when as a child, she used to visit her grandmother and she had often many stories read to her from it. This handsome solid piece has been recently re-upholstered in France by a family of 3 generations of upholsterers. A lovely modern patchwork designed by Tribal Traces and incorporating typical ethnic patterns from Cameroon - living art and statement maker. This piece’s simple clean lines and beautifully aged wood will bring a warm and refined feel to any space.

BACKSTORY:
The Louis-Philippe style of the 1830s to late 1840s was devised for a busy but coddled bourgeoisie that sought to satisfy their desire for comfort and as well as give them a sense of social legitimacy. It was less preoccupied with originality than it was with comfort and new techniques of production.
